Gnana Saraswati Temple/Basara





Goddess of education in India is “Saraswathi Devi”. Among two Saraswathi Devi temples in India, Basar Gnana Saraswathi Devi temple occupies an important place in our history. This temple is located on the bank of river Godavari in Telangana Andhra Pradesh. Co-ordinated of this place is 1805240N 7705723E.



HOW TO REACH:

This place is well connected by roadway as well as railway. Railway will be best option as Basar railway station is just 2.4kms away from this temple. If you are planning to reach this place by roadways then you have to plan a long way round, but that was made simple by Govt as it provides buses from nearest districts. The nearest city is Hyderabad, which is 210kms from here. 

HISTORY & ARCHITECHURE:

According to the Indian Mythology this place is auspicious because after the historical war Kurukshetra, Maharshi  vyas & sage Viswamitra along with their disciples came to this place for peaceful atmosphere. They were attracted to the calm and divine feel in this Dandaka forest and thought to settle down here. As per his daily schedule Maharshi vyas take bath in nearby river Godavari and in return he brought with him three handful of sand.  With his divine powers, he turned the sand in to three statues of Goddess Laxmi, Saraswathi and Sarada then offered prayers. 

As per other puranas , Adikavi Valmiki installed Goddess Saraswathi  here and starts writing the epic of Ramayana. Valmiki Samadhi can be seen near the temple. Later Bijialudu a Karnataka king constructed temple for these three Devi’s and made this place a permanent Pilgrim centre. Presence of three Goddess makes this place a divine place f Trinity.

IMPORTANCE:

Many people believe that, if you do “Akshara Abhyasham” for your children here, then they will be blessed with knowledge and wisdom.

SEVAS & FESTIVALS:

Maha Shivaratri and Dussehra are main festival and celebrated with great joy. Besides daily sevas are conducted temples management.
