in12thcentury. The kings of Kalinga (Old name of Odissa) in Kalinga
architecture built this temple. In India, there are total 18 Narasimha temples
and this is one of them. In 16th century, Sri Krishna Devaraya
visited the holy place and donated large amount of wealth for the maintenance
of this temple. Many inscriptions were written in different languages

many acres of land to the Devastanam.
According to Hindu Mythology, Lord Vishnu incarnated in Narasimha Avatar (Half human Half Lion)
to protect his devotee Bhakta Prahalada and to kill the Rakshasha king
Hiranyakashyap who is the father of Prahalada. It is said that the temple is
built on the exact place where Lord Vishnu took this Narasimhswai avatar and
set his foot on the ground to protect Prahalada.
The deity of this temple Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy statue is covered with sandal wood
