HISTORY:

From the ancient books it was revealed that the history of Srisailam was started during the age of  Satavahanas . Satavahanas were the origins of south India. The story behind Srisailam was Lord Shiva and Parvathi were in a decision of get their Sons (Lord Ganesha & lord Karthikeya) married. There goes an argument that who will get married first. Then lord Shiva put a test to them that, who will go round the Earth (Bhoomipradakshna)  7 times and return here first will be the winner. Karthikeya’s  vahana (Carrier) is Peacock . So he fly of quickly. But Lord Ganesha’s Vahana is a musika (Rat), so he can’t win the race against Karthikeya. Then Lord Ganesha decided to revolve around his Parents (Shiva& Parvathi) . In sastras it was written that revolving around parents is equal to revolving around earth. So this way Ganesha wins the contest and married first to Buddhi(intellect), Siddhi(spiritual) and Ridhi (Prosperity). Karthikeya got angry and flew to the mountain called Kravunja. Lord Shiva & Parvathi went to pacify him and stayed near to their son on Srisailam. On every amavashya Lord Shiva visit his son & on Poornima Maata Parvathi .
