Srisailam is an
cultural heritage of India. It is situated in the Nallamala hills of Kurnool
district in Andhra Pradesh, on the bank of river Krishna. If you are travelling
from Hyderabad by road then it is about 212kms. It doesn’t have a particular
railway station. so devotees must get down at Kurnool and should make a trip of
97kms towards srisailam.
Srisailam is located at 16.0740N 78.8680 E. It
was about 409 meters height from the ground level.
HISTORY:
From the ancient books it was revealed that the history of
Srisailam was started during the age of
Satavahanas . Satavahanas were the origins of south India. The story behind Srisailam was Lord Shiva and Parvathi were
in a decision of get their Sons (Lord Ganesha & lord Karthikeya) married.
There goes an argument that who will get married first. Then lord Shiva put a
test to them that, who will go round the Earth (Bhoomipradakshna) 7 times and return here first will be the
winner. Karthikeya’s vahana (Carrier) is
Peacock . So he fly of quickly. But Lord Ganesha’s Vahana is a musika (Rat), so
he can’t win the race against Karthikeya. Then Lord Ganesha decided to revolve
around his Parents (Shiva& Parvathi) . In sastras it was written that
revolving around parents is equal to revolving around earth. So this way
Ganesha wins the contest and married first to Buddhi(intellect),
Siddhi(spiritual) and Ridhi (Prosperity). Karthikeya got angry and flew to the
mountain called Kravunja. Lord Shiva & Parvathi went to pacify him and
stayed near to their son on Srisailam.
On every amavashya Lord Shiva visit his son & on Poornima Maata Parvathi .
The epigraphically
sources state that Srisailam has
four gateways in four cardinal directions.

MALLIKARJUNA
TEMPLE
Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Temple is situated in
Srisailam. It is one of the 12 ancient temples of Lord Shiva called Jyotrilingas. This temple is also called
Srigiri. This temple is also one of the eighteen Sakti peethas. It was placed
on the top top of Nallamali hills. Lord Mallikarjuna is the preceding deity of
the temple.
As per Mahapuranam Lord Brahma (Hindu god of creator) and
Lord Vishnu (Hindu God of Saving) argue on issue of supremacy. Then Lord Shiva intervened
and put a test to them . He placed a pillar which have no end point & asked
Lord Brahma & Lord Vishnu to measure that pillar. Lord Brahma lied that he
measured the pillar. Knowing that Lord Brahma lied, Lord Shiva cursed him for
not is worshiped on Earth. Lord Vishnu replied truly that he cannot find the
endpoint .So he was blessed that he would be worshiped for eternity. There are around 64 Jyotirlingas, among them
12 jyotirlingas are of special importance and considered to the most powerful
places. In this temple devotees are allowed to enter in to the Garbhagudi (room
where lord id placed) and complete the rituals by their own hands. Here no
racial discrimination is found; people of all caste & creed are allowed and
respected. The origin of this temple is unknown. It’s believed to be Swayambhu.

grief Lord Vishnu Cut of Sati Devi’s corpse making her parts of body fall on
earth which was later emerged as SHAKTI
